Midjourney version 6: A New Frontier for AI Art

Have you ever dreamed of creating stunning artwork with just a few words? Do you want to unleash your creativity and explore the infinite possibilities of AI art? If you answered yes, then you’re in luck. Midjourney, the leading platform for AI art, has just released an alpha-version of their V6 model, and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.

The V6 model is the latest and most advanced AI model from Midjourney, and it’s available for the community to test over the winter break. To turn it on, select V6 from the dropdown menu under /settings or type –v 6 after your prompt. But be warned: this is not your ordinary AI model. This is a game-changer.

What’s new with the V6 model?

The V6 model is a quantum leap from the previous V5 model, and it offers a range of new and improved features that will blow your mind. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Much more accurate prompt following as well as longer prompts: The V6 model can understand your prompts better and generate more coherent and relevant images. You can also use longer prompts to give more details and instructions to the model.
  • Improved coherence, and model knowledge: The V6 model can maintain a consistent theme and style throughout your images, and it can also draw from a vast database of knowledge to create realistic and informative images.
  • Improved image prompting and remix: The V6 model can take any image as a prompt and generate a new image based on it. You can also remix two or more images to create a unique combination.
  • Minor text drawing ability: The V6 model can also draw text on your images, as long as you write your text in “quotations” and use –style raw or lower –stylize values. For example, you can type /imagine a photo of the text “Hello World!” written with a marker on a sticky note –ar 16:9 –v 6 and get something like this:
  • Improved upscalers, with both ‘subtle’ and ‘creative’ modes: The V6 model can increase the resolution of your images by 2x, and you can choose between two modes: ‘subtle’ for a more natural and realistic look, or ‘creative’ for a more artistic and stylized look. You’ll see buttons for these under your images after clicking U1/U2/U3/U4.

These are just some of the features that are supported at launch, but there are more to come in the near future, such as Pan, Zoom, Vary (region), /tune, and /describe (a new v6 version).

How to use the V6 model?

The V6 model is significantly different from the V5 model, and it requires a different approach to prompting. You will need to ‘relearn’ how to prompt, and here are some tips to help you:

  • Be explicit about what you want: The V6 model is much more sensitive to your prompt, and it will try to follow it as closely as possible. Avoid using vague or irrelevant words like “award winning, photorealistic, 4k, 8k”, and instead use clear and specific words to describe what you want to see.
  • Use –style raw for more photographic / less opinionated / more literal images: The V6 model has a lot of artistic flair, and it may add some unexpected elements or effects to your images. If you want something more faithful to your prompt, you should probably default to using –style raw, which will reduce the model’s influence and produce more realistic images.
  • Adjust –stylize to balance prompt understanding and aesthetics: The –stylize argument (default 100) controls how much the model will modify your images based on its own style and preferences. Lower values may have better prompt understanding, while higher values may have better aesthetics. You can experiment with different values to find the optimal balance for your images.

Of course, the best way to learn how to use the V6 model is to chat with other users in the prompt-chat channel, where you can share your prompts, images, feedback, and tips. You can also check out the examples and tutorials on the Midjourney website for more inspiration and guidance.

What to expect from the V6 model?

The V6 model is an alpha test, which means that it is still in development and subject to change. Things will change frequently and without notice, so don’t rely on this exact model being available in the future. It will significantly change as Midjourney takes V6 to full release.

The V6 model is also slower and more expensive than the V5 model, but it will get faster as Midjourney optimizes it. Relax mode is supported, and it costs about 1 gpu/min per imagine and 2 gpu/min per upscale.

The V6 model can also generate much more realistic imagery than anything Midjourney has released before, which means that it comes with more responsibility and accountability. Midjourney has turned up the moderation systems and will be enforcing the community standards with increased strictness and rigor. Don’t be a jerk or create images to cause drama, or you may face consequences.

The V6 model is the third model trained from scratch on Midjourney’s AI superclusters, and it’s been in the works for 9 months. It’s not the final step, but it’s a huge milestone for the field of AI art, and it represents the progression of something profound that deeply intertwines with the powers of our collective imaginations.

So what are you waiting for? Join the alpha test and experience the V6 model for yourself. You won’t regret it.
